The history of the Letchumanan Hall.
The Coastal Indian Association, Klang was founded in the year 1925 with the objective of uniting the Indians residing in the coastal areas of Klang and to encourage their social culture and physical health activities.
As there was no office for the Association, in the early days Mr. V.E. Chacko, had kindly volunteered to house the Association, in his own “Jubilee School” premises. Late Mr. RM.M. Letchumanan Chettiar, J.P. a prominent member of the Indian community, presented a land (Building site) in Jalan Kota, to erect a community building. The foundation stone was laid in 1961 for the erection of the community building, which was named Letchumanan Hall.
The dream of having a community building realized by the tireless efforts of the late Tan Sri Manickavasagam, who was then Assistant Minister of Labour, & through the donations from the Klang Indian Business Community and prominent Individuals & through the finance raised by’ lottery organized with the help of the Social Welfare Board. Needless to mention the cooperation and assistance offered by the then president Mr. R.S. Lopez.
